“The EU and Africa must cooperate to end violence in Burundi now” says Gianni Pittella

S&D Euro MPs voiced concern with the escalating violence in Burundi and call for international mediation ahead of the EU/Africa summit next week in Valletta.

S&D Group president Gianni Pittella said:

“The escalation of violence in Burundi risks to set all of Great Lakes region on fire. The latest news of the assassination of Pierre Claver Mbonimpa's son confirms the unbearable climate of violence and abuse.

“The European Union and African Union must cooperate to find a solution to stop violence in the Country now. We are confident of the full engagement of the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini.”
